Durational Performance.
First performed for Up
The Wall in Chester.
Solo
physical theatre performance based around the children’s nursery Rhyme Humpty
Dumpty. Humpty was placed out of reach of audience locked in a cycle of slowly
crawling up and down a ruined wall collecting fragments of his shell, in an
impossible, tragic task of trying to put himself back together. The words
projected behind him had dual meanings and could be associated with eggs or
relationships e.g fragile, broken, shattered, couldn’t put together again.
Walk The Line
Solo Perfomance across Ruthin Town. . Performance inspired by the facts surrounding prisoners exercise time. Historically it consisted of a
walk in the yard wearing a special hat to prevent eye contact with
anyone and holding onto a rope which they each held at set distance between the
prisoner in front. The line was to be kept tight at all times- hence
the
expression ‘walk the line.’
In this performance- inspired by the phrase above, A lone prisoner line
dances repeatedly to the song 'Walk the Line' by Johnny Cash with no
sense of enjoyment or purpose.
