Moss
stained petticoats made in response to local resident’s memories of the
graveyard as a place for courting couples:
‘.. The footpath did become quite a popular secluded place
in dark evenings for courting couples, when a young lady was given a helping
hand to get over the remaining wall for them to secrete behind a stone Monument
or Tombstone...
Young ladies of that time wore mostly white or
a light coloured flared skirt, it was not uncommon to find a young couple
drinking in a pub the young lady with moss stained lettering imprinted on her
rear, where she had come into contact with an engraving of an etched memorial,
mostly a date, but it had to be read in reverse as that was the way it was
shown.’
& new performance ' Les Mis - The Mute' In the
interactive performance Megan dressed as a mute a proffesional whos
purpose was to stand around at funerals with a sad, pathetic face. A
symbolic protector of the deceased, the mute would usually stand near
the door
of the home or church.
In the performance Megan handed out business cards advertising the
mutes miserable services whilst popular music alluding to smiling
(such as the Killers Smile like you Mean It) blarred out from a ghetto
blaster by her side.
